Dave Hilts, the founder of PaddleAir, has daughters who repeatedly asked him to come up with a product to protect their ribs and hips whilst surfing. Now, finally, he’s seen the light.

Jessica Boynton is a surfer, designer, and a PhD chemist. Her science background gives her a unique perspective into the materials technology of swimwear design.
She started surfing in 2014 and quickly fell in love with it.
When Dave approached her to create a rash guard that offered women rib protection as well, she jumped at the chance. So she used her passion for fashion and brought her technical background to bear on solving this problem in an innovative way.
The Rib Cloud creates a “cloud” of protection around your ribs, allowing you to surf for longer and more comfortably.
“Anyone who has been on a surf trip wearing just a swimsuit after only surfing in a wetsuit (or if you just haven’t surfed in a while or maybe it’s your first time) knows the pain that can be caused from your ribs hitting your board. We even designed the Rib Cloud with hip bone protectors to make sure we cushion that area as well”.
Jessica also added a tropical and feminine touch by accentuating the natural curves of the body with different colours and patterns.
“I wanted to create something that was functional but still looked feminine and fun”.
